Succession Civil War: Season 3 Episode 1 Recap

“The Juice Is Loose” exclaims a manic Kendall Roy who just started a full-blown family war.

After two years, the Roy family has returned to television. The Roys are in damage control mode as they jet around the world to secure allies for the media battle of the century: Logan Roy versus Kendall Roy

The episode wastes no time throwing viewers back into the moment Kendall dropped a bomb on Logan and allowing them to experience the dramatic aftermath. Kendall, high on power, is scrambling to portray himself as the opposition to corporate culture. Kendall’s new number one boy, Cousin Greg, stands by his side as the disgraced Roy rolls through calls, meetings, and casually mentions he wants to bring in “some BoJack guys” for his Twitter feed. Kendall is way over his head and is setting up his own demise in the comfort of his ex-wife’s house.

On the other side, Logan Roy has son-in-law Tom Wambsgans and Waystar executives Frank Vernon and Karl Muller as he plots his next move in the Balkans. Logan surprises everyone by announcing he will name someone else as CEO. The only problem is that there are no good candidates to be his successor.

Season 2 set up a potential Shiv takeover but also played around with the idea of Roman. At this point, it is between his two children or his counsel Gerri. The CEO will only be ceremonial while Logan can operate behind the scenes. Shiv and Roman both screw up their chances and Gerri is named as the successor.

With both men building up their teams, it sets up the season for a civil war between the cutthroat Logan or Manic Kendall. Who will win?
