Apollo 10 1/2: Linklater’s Belfast

Behind the movie is Richard Linklater who paints a love letter to the time and place behind his early formation. For the Before Trilogy writer/director that was 1960’s Houston during the space race.

Apollo 10 1/12 follows 10-year-old Stan while being narrated by present day Stan. Adult Stan never skips on the details of his childhood and goes at lengths to describe everything for the viewer. It feels like a rambling shopping list being read off with events told out of order, characters skipped, and fast pacing between descriptions. Amongst the rambles, is a storyline about Stan being recruited to NASA to go to the Moon at the age of 10. While that seems like an exciting conflict, it plays as B story.

This film plays like one big fantasy fever dream. Nothing seems real despite the amount of details to ground it into reality.
